Seven
students died and 25 others were injured in an inferno that gutted a girls'
school hostel in Kano.
The fire incident, which occurred late on Sunday night, razed the hostel of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Jogana in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Kano
State Deputy Governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, confirmed the death and
inferno.
He
said he had already visited the scene of the tragedy and the hospitals where
the survivors werereceiving treatment.
He
conveyed the government’s condolences to the families of the victims, assuring
them that government would cater for the medical bills of the affected
students.
Abubakar,
who doubles as the state Commissioner for Education, ordered the immediate
closure of the school to enable the students and parents manage the trauma of
the tragic incident.
He
said a technical committee would be set up to identify the immediate and remote
causes of the fire as well as advise government on the best means of repairing
the hostel.
The
deputy governor commended the community where the school is sited for its
assistance during the fire outbreak and acknowledged the contributions of
companies in the area for providing fire fighting equipment to help put out the
fire.
